Penicillin is a good drink with the taste of smoky whiskey, honey and ginger. Sam Ross created this drink at the New-York bar Milk & Honey in 2005

  • 5 cl Scotch Whisky
  • 2 cl honey
  • 0.5 cl ginger
  • 3 cl lemon juice
  • 0.5 cl smoky Scottish whiskey

Preparations

  1. Dilute the honey into a honey water so that it can mix with the other ingredients. Heat 2 parts honey together with 1 part water while stirring and let cool.
  2. Finely grate ginger with a grater. Then squeeze out the grated ginger so that you get a ginger juice.

The drink

  1. Pour Scotch whiskey into a shaker. This whiskey should not be smoky. In the original recipe, a so-called “blended scotch” is used.
  2. Add lemon juice, honey water and ginger juice.
  3. Fill the shaker with ice and shake until the drink is cold.
  4. Strain into an ice-filled glass.
  5. Top the drink with a bar spoon (approx. 0.5 cl) of smoky Scotch whisky. Preferably a so-called Islay whisky.
  6. Garnish with a piece of ginger.
