Penicillin is a good drink with the taste of smoky whiskey, honey and ginger. Sam Ross created this drink at the New-York bar Milk & Honey in 2005
- 5 cl Scotch Whisky
- 2 cl honey
- 0.5 cl ginger
- 3 cl lemon juice
- 0.5 cl smoky Scottish whiskey
Preparations
- Dilute the honey into a honey water so that it can mix with the other ingredients. Heat 2 parts honey together with 1 part water while stirring and let cool.
- Finely grate ginger with a grater. Then squeeze out the grated ginger so that you get a ginger juice.
The drink
- Pour Scotch whiskey into a shaker. This whiskey should not be smoky. In the original recipe, a so-called “blended scotch” is used.
- Add lemon juice, honey water and ginger juice.
- Fill the shaker with ice and shake until the drink is cold.
- Strain into an ice-filled glass.
- Top the drink with a bar spoon (approx. 0.5 cl) of smoky Scotch whisky. Preferably a so-called Islay whisky.
- Garnish with a piece of ginger.
